History of Natural Gas
Natural gas was discovered accidentally in ancient China, as it resulted from the drilling for brines. Natural gas was first used by the Chinese in about 500 BCE (possibly even 1000 BCE). They discovered a way to transport gas seeping from the ground in crude pipelines of bamboo to where it was used to boil salt water to extract the salt in the Ziliujing District of Sichuan.
The discovery and identification of natural gas in the Americas happened in 1626. In 1821, William Hart successfully dug the first natural gas well at Fredonia, New York, United States.
The first oil deposits in India were discovered in 1889 near the town of Digboi in the state of Assam. The natural gas industry in India began in the 1960s with the discovery of gas fields in Assam and Gujarat. Natural gas gained further significance after the discovery of large reserves in the South Basin fields by ONGC in the 1970s.
Quality of Natural Gas for CGD
City Gas distribution is transportation and distribution of Natural Gas through underground pipe lines (Metallic and non metallic) at different pressure. Based on pressure requirement, pipe line material is also changes. For long life of pipe line quality of natural gas is very important as well as keeping in mind of customer’s requirement.
After receiving natural gas from well, it refines to remove dust, moister, sulfur, carbon dioxide etc. As per Indian City Gas Regulator, Natural Gas has to be distributed to consumers with proper Odorisation so that in case of any leakage it can be detected.
Forms of Natural Gas
In India, through City Gas Distribution companies, Natural Gas is sold to transport sector, Industrial, Commercial and domestic sector. In future with development of technology, various other uses like fuel for Gas Generator, water heater, to run Air Conditions etc can also be happen.
Natural Gas is compressed at 200 Bars and delivered to Automobile then called as Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). Natural Gas supplies to other uses like for burners, furnaces, processing, manufacturing, heating, baking at low pressure and supplied through Pipes then called as Piped Natural Gas (PNG).
