Liquefied Natural Gas

Liquefied Natural Gas(LNG) is Natural Gas cooled at approx. -162 °C (−260 °F) volume reduction 1/600th the volume of natural gas is odorless, colorless, non-toxic and non-corrosive. Hazards include flammability after vaporization into a gaseous state, freezing and asphyxia. Natural Gas was not recommended to store and transport long distances. LNG achieves a higher reduction in volume than compressed natural gas (CNG) so that the (volumetric) energy density of LNG is 1.4 times greater than (2.4 times as great as) that of CNG (at 200 bar) or 60 percent that of diesel fuel.

Developments of cryogenic storage, transportation with big and miniature regasification plants, LNG is getting popularity in various forms in compared with other fuels.

Variants of LNG

Re-gassification of Liquefied Natural Gas with the help of vaporizer and fill directly in stationary cascade and sell to automobile segment is LCNG. LCNG is a great option for remote areas where pipe line laying is not possible or nonviable. L CNG Stations are always having dual facility of LNG and LCNG.

Re-gassification of Liquefied Natural Gas with the help of vapouriser and further  reduction of pressure suitable to inject in underground pipe network to supply to domestic, commercial and industrial segment can be considered as L-PNG.

This is a concept only which can be seen in future. Small LNG container can be distributed/replaced at door step of customer as per their requirement. With small Re-gassification LNG plant suitable to industrial segment can be considered as Retail-LNG.

LNG Terminals in India

Petronet LNG Ltd.

Petronet LNG Limited has set up first LNG terminal to receive and regasify LNG in India at Dahej, Gujarat. PLL has set up another terminal in Kochi, Kerala. Capacity of both terminals is 22.5 million tonnes per year. The company is in the process to build third terminal in Gangavaram, Andhra Pradesh.

Hazira LNG & Port

Hazira terminal commissioned on April 16 2005. It is India’s first LNG terminal by a global energy company. LNG terminal Hazira launches the concept of a merchant terminal in India where customers could choose the quantity, the price and the time of making a sale, a unique proposition in the Indian LNG scenario. Hazira terminal is having capacity of 5 million tons.

RGPPL LNG Terminal

Ratnagiri Gas and Power Private limited (RGPPL) is promoted by NTPC Limited and GAIL (India) Limited. This company has taken over Dabhol Power Company Project. RGPPL owns an Integrated Power generation and Re-gasified LNG facility.

Indian Oil LNG

IndianOil LNG Private Limited, a Joint Venture company of IndianOil Corporation Limited, was incorporated on 29.05.2016 under Companies Act, 2013 for implementation of Ennore LNG Import, Storage and Re-gasification Terminal Project of 5 MMTPA capacity with provision to extension up to 10 MMTPA with an estimated cost of Rupees 5151 Crores inside Kamarajar Port, Chennai.

GSPC LNG

GSPC LNG Limited (GLL) promoted by Government of Gujarat, GSPC and other entities, has set up the 5 MMTPA LNG receiving, storage and regasification terminal at Mundra, Kutch, Gujarat. The terminal also has a facility for LNG truck loading. The physical construction activities of the LNG terminal commenced at site in August 2014.The terminal received its commissioning cargo in the month of January 2020.

H Energy FSRU

The launch of India’s first FSRU based LNG terminal marks a new era of opportunities to drive the development of port based industries and social infrastructure in India. The LNG terminal will cater to the need of clean, safe and affordable natural gas. H-Energy’s LNG Terminal is also expected to greatly benefit the state of Maharashtra by providing clean fuel for transportation & households.

FAQ

No. After regasification of LNG  pressure of 200 Bars generates to fill cascade and automobiles.

Yes, after regasification of LNG, it can inject in underground pipe network to transport to any where for any application.

Retail LNG companies are providing services for mini plants for retail LNG.

PNGRB and PESO rules are available to install the same.
